Aurangabad is one of the most important districts of Maharashtra located in the Deccan Plateau. The district has a triangular shape; the southern side corresponds to the Godavari and the northern side to the northeast trending arm of the Ajanta ranges. The distance from extreme east to west is nearly 175 kms. The district is surrounded by Jalgaon district on the north, Buldhana and Jalana districts on the east, Beed and Ahmadnagar districts on the south and Nasik district on the west.
